Northern valleys journey is blessed with beautiful mountains, sparkling lakes, vibrant rivers and cheerful villages. Walk inside the heart of two natural parks, Valbona and Theth, which offer vertiginous alpine ridges and elegant valleys rich in flora and wildlife. Tour Plan
  • Day 1. Tirana International Airport – Tirana

    Reception by an English-speaking member of the Envie d’Albanie team at TIA airport. Direction Tirana and visit of the center. 

    Dinner in a traditional restaurant and accommodation in a hotel. 

  • Day 2. Tirana - Koman – Fierze – Valbona

    Hike: ~ 3:00 hours. 

    Maximal ascent: ~ 50 m. 

    Maximal descent: ~ 50 m.  

    Distance: ~ 5 km.

    Early departure by van to Koman to board on the ferry terminal. Enjoy a gorgeous cruise on the Albanian fjord. The lake is fed by the Drin, the Shala and Valbona rivers. It is surrounded by dense forested hills, vertical slops and narrow valleys with time to time vertical canyon walls.  

    Arrival 2:30 hrs later in Fierze and transfer to Valbona. Enjoy the first hike inside the Valbona valley and free time.

  • Day 3. Valbona – Cerem – Kolata pass – Valbona
    • Hike: ~ 6: 30 hours. 

      Maximal ascent: ~ 850 m. 

      Maximal descent: ~ 1100 m. 

      Distance: ~ 15 km. 

      Luggage Transer: No. 

      After a short transfer up to Cerem hamlet, the path starts gently climbing towards the border with Montenegro. It crosses the forests and some summer pastures from where the 3 Kollatës peaks (Dobra Kolata 2525 meters, Zla Kolata 2535 meters and Maja Kollatës 2552 meters) show their powerful magic, to finally arrives at the Kolata pass at 2029 meters. From there, the route follows the descent towards a ancient border post transformed into a sheepfold to finally ends inside the Valbona valley.

  • Day 4. Theth – Valbona
    • Trek: ~ 7: 00 hours 

      Maximal ascent: ~ 1050 m. 

      Maximal descent: ~ 850 m.  

      Distance: ~ 14.5 km 

      Luggage Transfer: Horses 

      The itinerary invites you to climb the famous Valbona Pass (1759 meters) and will follow the old road used by mules and horses to reach the regions of Shala and then Nikaj.  

      The route will offer a magnificent glimpse of Mother Nature's jewels. Sailing between forests, slopes, torrents and neighbouring peaks (Jezerces - 2692 m., Radohimes - 2568 m.) it will pass through the top of the Valbona pass to offer a splendid view of the Theth and Valbona valleys.

  • Day 5. Theth – Grunas canyon – Theth
    • Hike: ~ 4: 00 hours 

      Maximal ascent: ~ 150 m. 

      Maximal descent: ~ 150 m.  

      Distance: ~ 7 km 

       

      Direction a place of rare beauty listed as an Albanian heritage site, the Grunas waterfall, whose last waterfall is 30 meters high. 

      Then the hike continues along the river Lumi i Thethit. to reach the Grunas Canyon where the water has carved its bed into the limestone rock to form a gorge about 2 km long, 60 meters high and between 2 and 40 meters wide. Icy and clear water flows.. 

      Back to the village of Theth where it will be possible to walk around the village to admire its cultural sites such as its small church and the Nikoll Koceku tower.  

      Dinner and accommodation in a guesthouse. 

  • Day 6. Theth – Maja Arapit – Theth
    • Hike: ~ 7: 30 hours 

      Maximal ascent: ~ 1300 m. 

      Maximal descent: ~ 1300 m.  

      Distance: ~  14 km 

       

      Short transfer by vehicle up to the starting point (guesthouse Mirash Kometa). The path climbs the route the Qafa e Pejes pass following a stream. From the pass (1724 meters – the highest point of the trail). From there it takes the direction of the Peja lakes and turns around the Mount Arapit up to the pass of Vishnes from where it descents towards some ancient stone walls and the caves of Arapit to ends a the beginning of the valley of Theth where the vehicle will get the hikers back to the guesthouse.

  • Day 7. Theth – Kruja

    Direction Kruja and free visit of the Bazaar and the castle. 

    Dinner and overnight in a hotel. 

  • Day 8. Kruja – Tirana International Airport

    Free time up to departure to the airport.

Passport:

A valid passport (at least 6 months from the start of the stay) is required. A copy of each participant’s passport will be requested at least one month before the departure date of the trek in order to obtain the border crossing authorizations from the competent authorities.

Insurance:

International travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover the consequences of incidents that may occur while traveling, traveling, and staying abroad. It is the traveler’s responsibility to check with his travel agent or insurer before departure.
